Bowls at the Tin Can Bay Country Club
Some history - From the early formation meetings in July 1966 and the Tin Can Bay Country Club's later development, bowlers along with golfers and all members recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of those first meetings.
On the bowls side, initially one bowls green was established with much volunteer labour and finished off with grass coming from the Woombye Bowls Club. Major improvements to this green took place in 1977. The membership growth in the Tin Can Bay Bowls Club warranted a second green and this was built and opened in 1998.
Lights were added to the number 1 green and early in 2007 this same green was covered with a retractable shade cloth for the summer comfort of the members, an exciting new facility rarely seen in the area. A goal of the club is to also cover the second green. Both greens are a credit to the club as they are considered to be as good as any in the district.
