Bowls at the Tin Can Bay Country Club

Some history - From the early formation meetings in July 1966 and the Tin Can Bay Country Club's later development, bowlers along with golfers and all members recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of those first meetings.

On the bowls side, initially one bowls green was established with much volunteer labour and finished off with grass coming from the Woombye Bowls Club. Major improvements to this green took place in 1977. The membership growth in the Tin Can Bay Bowls Club warranted a second green and this was built and opened in 1998.

Lights were added to the number 1 green and early in 2007 this same green was covered with a retractable shade cloth for the summer comfort of the members, an exciting new facility rarely seen in the area. A goal of the club is to also cover the second green. Both greens are a credit to the club as they are considered to be as good as any in the district.

Competitions - The Tin Can Bay Bowls Club has through the years been a competitive Club in all district competitions and has provided many District Champions and a Zone Champ or two from both the Men's and Ladies sections. In District Pennants, the Club currently fields sides in grades 1 and 3 in the Men's competition and Grade 1 in the Ladies.

In May and September each year, the Club hosts their Ladies and Men's Open Fours Tournaments with prize money of over $5,000 and attracts bowlers from Brisbane to Bundaberg.

We love being host to visitors - Regular bowls days are:
Men's Mufti Pairs - Wednesdays at 12.30pm
Mixed Social Bowls - Thursdays at 12.30pm and Sundays at 12.30pm
Mixed Pairs Bowls - Saturdays at 12.30pm and Sundays at 12.30pm
Both these days require neat attire and Mufti

The Ladies Bowls section also has an invitation day on the 1st Tuesday of each month starting with morning tea at 9.00am

Other special sponsored days occur from time to time and further information can be gained by calling the Tin Can Bay Country Club as above.

We are also host to quite a number of touring bowlers throughout the year with many coming back to us year after year. The Tin Can Bay Bowls Club has an excellent restaurant and accommodation can be arranged for bus loads only a short distance from the club. Interested groups should again contact the Tin Can Bay Country Club who will refer you to the Bowls secretary.

Happy bowling
